First Meeting of International Advisory Group

The members of the International Advisory Group to the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development met for the first time on 21-22 April 2008 at the Federal Ministry for Education and Research in Berlin. The 14 experts on education for sustainable development deliberated on the format, the programme and the overarching goals of the World Conference.
Furthermore, they discussed the main objectives of the conference. These will be the highlighting of the relevance of ESD to all of education, the promotion of international exchange on ESD, especially between countries of the North and the South, carrying out a stock-taking of the implementation of the UN Decade and developing strategies for the way ahead.
The members of the International Advisory Group emphasised that especially the different regional, national and culturally different implementations of ESD should be considered as well as the various challenges and underlying political conditions in the different countries.
