In the lead-up to the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, the workshop “Visions and preparations for a common blueprint on Education for Sustainable Development” will take place from 11 to 12 November 2008 in Gothenborg, Sweden. It is organized by Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg together with the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research, the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO and the Swedish International Centre of Education for Sustainable Development.

The workshop is a follow-up to four previously arranged ESD-workshops: "Drivers and Barriers for Implementing Learning for Sustainable Development in Higher Education" (2005), "Drivers and Barriers for Learning for Sustainable Development in Pre-School, School and Teacher Education" (2006), "The role of early childhood education in a sustainable society" (2007), and "The Right to Knowledge - Public Learning for Sustainable Development - Laboratory for Democratic Learning" (2007).

The aim of the workshop is to develop a set of recommendations which will contribute to the drafting of the Declaration arising from the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in Bonn. Recommendations will be based on the reports produced in connection to each of the four previous workshops, complemented with the knowledge and experience of the participants of this fifth workshop. The workshop document will consist of general recommendations for all areas of ESD as well as a set of specific recommendations. The recommendations will target decision-makers and governments worldwide, to guide them on future decisions and actions needed in relation to Education for Sustainable Development.
