Arte Sustenibile - Art, Design and Sustainability
The exhibition made sustainability a first-hand experience. Themes were the protection of natural resources, energy efficiency, the reduction of greenhouse gases, encouragement towards tolerance and humanitarian aid, reduction of social discrimination and the observation of human rights. Arte Sustenibile presented practical examples of art and design from more than 60 artists from all over the world: I.E. Solar Art, wind games, art in context with public transportation, art made from or with renewable resources, recycling art, art against war. Very popular were the human powered kinetic art objects and vehicles. Solar architecture and solar-flying without noise and exhaust gases were given attention, too.
Most fascinating was a world record car: The Swiss Paccar II makes incredible 5385 km with only a one-litre petrol equivalent. Included in the exhibition were designers, architects, video artists, photographers, painters, and sculptors. In part, different groups of persons contributed, even from the margins of society. There were wind plays made by young prisoners and works from artists who have been involved with homeless people were displayed.

The knowledge box – The future of our city is unknown but we can create it
We live in houses, work in factories, learn in schools, meet in assembly rooms - places in a city fulfil different functions for us. We walk through forests, transport goods over streeets and rivers.
But how does the water quality for a flush have to be? How many machines do we really need? What goes better, the cable railway or my old car? What tastes better, the apples from my garden or those from Australia? How much of a forest does the print shop need for a newspaper? Can I benefit from the sun on my house top?
To answer these questions, we need informations and imagination that will becreated just in front of the World Conference.

Exhibition: How to approach global justice? Methods and instruments enhancing global competences and understanding
Global justice is an issue arising from the concern that "we do not live in a just world.” Many people have high income, while others live on less than one dollar a day. Some live in war conditions other in peace.
How should we respond to these facts?
Global Education is an active learning process which starts with raising awareness of these problems, then creates a deeper understanding of the complex issues behind. Thereby it aims at changing people's attitudes and encourages them to reflect on their own role.
What are the methods to reach these goals?
At five learning stations good practices for education for sustainable development were showcased.

Child labour: Children’s rights are human rights
Children’s Rights are Human Rights. Meaning that children have the right to spend their childhood without being forced to work. Furthermore, they have the right to education. However, more than 218 million children have to work every day. The exhibition ‘workers-neglected childhood’ showed photographs of the Italian photographer Cristina Francessoni who is engaged in a comprehensive documentation of children’s destinies. Francessoni wants to stop child labour and stands up for their rights.

Multimedia & water
The concept of self-organised learning presents the implementation of the topic ‘water’ into school curriculars. The visitors could experience the complexity of water and could do some extraordinary experiments. The essential factor was the combination of multimedia components with traditional design approaches. This allowed a variety of experience such as those between science, aesthetics and philosophy. The approach of “self-organized learning” is used in combination with multimedia learning methods which are also useful for extracurricular partners. The information point “A sip of Water” showed this approach to the public.
A special training for teachers on the subject of “Self-Organized Learning (SOL) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)” took place from 14.00-18.00 h. “Self-Organized Learning” is a teaching concept that supports and structures the autonomous organization of learning processes. The method SOL is especially suitable for interdisciplinary teaching units as well as for the organization of subject-specific teaching. In the context of this advanced training for teachers of all school types and subjects the complex relations between SOL and ESD was elaborated.

Sustainability in forests
Forest education, hunting and school are no contradiction. On the contrary, they complement each other and give new input to current discussions related to new learning styles. The ‘House of Nature’ wanted to show new approaches in the field of nature education. Visitors experienced nature with ‘head, heart and hand’ and got to know new concepts on how to advance sustainable development. Being crucial for sustainability, forest use could be examined in detail. Examples were given and interaction with ecological, economic, social and cultural factors were not left out.

Forest forum
The forest forum aided to demonstrate the importance of forest to Education for Sustainable Development. There was a "green classroom" which was surrounded by trees, logs served as benches. It was located at the Münsterplatz in the centre of Bonn. We invited pupils from Primary Schools and Kindergarden-Children to the "forest forum". In a forest-like atmosphere four classes or groups each day learnt facts about forests, sustainable utilisation of wood and the sustainable developement. Due to the public location other people were able to watch this event and had the chance to get some informations about Education for Sustainable Development.
