Meetings

The International Advisory Group met for the first time on 21-22 April 2008 in Berlin. A second meeting took place on 30-31 October 2008 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Berlin Meeting

The members of the International Advisory Group to the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development met for the first time on 21-22 April 2008 at the Federal Ministry for Education and Research in Berlin. The 14 experts on education for sustainable development deliberated on the format and the programme.

Furthermore, they discussed the main objectives of the conference. These will be the highlighting of the relevance of ESD to all of education, the promotion of international exchange on ESD, especially between countries of the North and the South, carrying out a stock-taking of the implementation of the UN Decade and developing strategies for the way ahead.

The members of the International Advisory Group emphasised that especially the different regional, national and culturally different implementations of ESD should be considered as well as the various challenges and underlying political conditions in the different countries.

Paris Meeting

On 30 and 31 October 2008, the International Advisory Group met for the second time. At the meeting at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris participants discussed format and facilitators of the Conference workshops as well as the High-Level Segment of the World Conference. Furthermore they provided their advice regarding the drafting process of the Bonn Declaration, its content and format. Other items on the agenda were the selection of projects for a good practice exhibition at the Conference as well as the venues and format of the project-based workshops, which will be held at ESD projects outside the Conference venue.

Finally, the IAG deliberated how meetings taking place in the lead-up to the World Conference in Bonn will be able to submit their outcomes to the conference.
